Walk It, Trade It, Own It

What a busy week here at St Martin’s!!

Another amazing week with these amazing children has flown by. From trading books, joining the library to owning the cat walk; Wolfgate have done it all.

For World Book Week, we have been continuing our usual studies with the build up to SATs fast approaching with a focus on developing our own Dual Narrative piece of writing based on the model text ‘Hansel and Gretel’. This week, we have focused on developing character’s emotions through showing the reader not telling, The children used drama to develop their understanding and then developed sentences to implement their learning into evidence.

During Maths, we have continued to develop our mastery understanding of finding the area of triangles and parallelograms. We have been developing our knowledge of finding the perpendicular lines of shapes in order to calculate their areas using base x height. We have applied this knowledge into reasoning and problem solving equations also.

For World Book Week, our Young Leaders helped run ‘Trade it Tuesday’ where children bought in a book to swap for another book.We loved running the stall and the children showed great independence by helping it run so smoothly.

On Wednesday, we walked to the StoryHouse Library and Waterstones to join the library and to cash in our free book token, again, the children were an absolute credit to themselves and the academy by being excellent role-models for the rest of the academy.

Finally, on Thursday we got to dress up! Year 6 owned the Catwalk and had a fun morning looking at everybody else’s costume.

A busy busy week. They have earned a couple of days rest!

Thank you for your continued support,

The Year 6 Team
