Stomping Good Fun!

Northgate had the incredible opportunity to work with Pete from Nebula Artistic, a well-known dancer and choreographer who has performed with Stomp. The children learned how body percussion can create rhythms to express feelings or tell a story. They learned a choreographed piece by Pete before applying these new-found skills into a group dance, which had to include unison, canon and solos. The children absolutely loved the experience and Pete complimented the children on their creativity and ability to work as a team. This kick-started this weeks learning on dances from other cultures including Capoeira, Breakdancing, Samba, Tango, Waltz, Ballet and Contemporary.

The children have explored a range of texts with Giants in, including Hagrid, BFG and the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. They have also learned more about empathy, identifying how the Giant might feel when Jack trespasses and steals his prized possessions, using drama to explore conscience alley when Jack first saw the Beanstalk and discussed whether he should or shouldn’t climb the beanstalk.

In maths the children have practised estimating and measuring time.

Who decides what art is has been the focus of their learning this week, creating pieces they consider to be art or not art.

A fantastic week of learning, well done Northgate.
