Shipgate Explorers!

What an excellent first week back Shipgate have had!

With a busy half week the class have settled in brilliantly. It has been lovely to hear about their amazing summer holidays and to see how enthusiastic they are about the upcoming year.

For our WOW moment on Wednesday, the children had a special visit from our very own Sir Ernest Shackleton (Mr Walker)! Shipgate were extremely inquisitive and excelled in the Q & A session. They have learnt so much about our new topic ‘Sir Ernest Shackleton’ already- well done Shipgate!

During our topic work this week, Shipgate have explored the life of Sir Ernest Shackleton through the use of iPads and mini film. They have then been able to create their own mind maps including all the information they have collected.

On Thursday, Shipgate were thrilled to find out they had DOUBLE PE! They started with a theory lesson all about heart rate. They were able to investigate what happened to our heart rate during and after exercise.

Shipgate will be pleased to know they have finished all their start of year assessments and have tried so hard.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

The Year 5 Team

With regards to homework:

Google Classroom: This year Shipgate’s homework will be set on Google Classroom every Friday at the end of the school day. The homework will vary each week with some weeks having an English and Maths focus and others having a Topic focus. They will have their Google Classroom log in and password stuck into their Learning Diary.

Spellings: This week, all children have written their spellings in their Learning Diary. Our spelling test will always be on the following Friday. As of next week, the children will be put into spelling groups and each group will have differentiated spellings. They will write their spellings into their Learning Diary and they will also be put onto Google Classroom.
