Making Friends with fractions!

Shipgate have had a great week!

During maths this week, Shipgate have come to the end of their statistics unit and moved onto fractions! The children completed their final statistics lesson where they completed two-way tables. Within fractions, the children have been finding fraction equivalents, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and converting mixed numbers to improper fractions.

Within literacy, Shipgate have been identifying examples of a range of writer hints from a given text and making suggestions for the effect these have on the reader. In addition to this, the children conducted an interview and practised the use of direct and reported speech.

Science allowed the children to identify and experiment with the force of friction. They even went on to observe how magnets attract or repel each other and other materials.

Penultimately, within topic this week Shipgate have completed research on Gustav Holst in order to complete an artist study all about him! The children have also been creating podcast reports on the discovery of gravity.

Finally, on Friday, the children celebrated Chinese New Year. Shipgate took part in a workshop all about this subject and also completed some learning in class around this!

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year 5 team.
