Jumping into the Half Term Holidays!
Wow- what a wonderful end to the term we have had in Shipgate. The sun has been shining (most of the time) and spirits have been high. The Shipgate children have concluded their trans-disciplinary theme and even had their first taste of Year 6 SATs papers- we are incredibly proud of their efforts and their mature attitude- well done everybody!
In PE this week, Shipgate enjoyed a dodgeball session on Monday with AJ, showing great teamwork. In our other PE sessions, Shipgate had a fantastic time practising different athletics events including: hurdles, sprinting and relay. Shipgate made a splash, literally, in their end of term fun session on Friday at the City Baths. It was wonderful to see the children enjoying themselves and playing together in the water.
This week in Maths, Shipgate have moved on to studying 2D and 3D shapes. The children have been identifying regular and irregular polygons, measuring the length of their sides and angles accurately. The class identified 3D shapes from their nets and they described their properties. The Shipgate children showed excellent resilience and effort when they completed a maths SATs paper- well done, we are so proud of your efforts!
In Literacy this week, the class have been looking at range of SATs papers. The pupils attempted the questions independently before we reviewed methods and answers together. The children have been brilliant and they are definitely Wolfgate ready!
To end our trans-disciplinary theme, Shipgate completed their end of unit enquiry, using key vocabulary that they have learnt. The Shipgate class created some beautiful pieces of art work this week including: a pastel ape picture and a landscape image, taken from our literacy text, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’. Shipgate thoroughly enjoyed their end of term djembe drum session with Mark- practising previously learnt rhythms, performing in groups and as a class.
We hope that the Shipgate children enjoy a well-deserved break over the half term, after all their hard work, ready for their final term in Shipgate. Let’s hope the sun continues to shine! Thank you for your continued support.
