Northgate

Exploring Earth

This week Northgate have started their transdisciplinary theme with a bang! They have explored planet earth and discovered that it is made up of layers. The children were transported to the middle of the earth by digging a gigantic tunnel and discovered along the way the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The learned a rhyme and performed movements and actions to help them learn the four layers before using this knowledge to create models of the earth and dissecting them and applied this learning in their written work. This led to Northgate creating their own volcanic creations, using recyclable materials and papier mache and painted them to make them look realistic. They are very much looking forward to their exciting experiment eruptions next week.

It has also been a great opportunity to get to know each other, the children have considered what a great classmate and what they want from their teachers. They also created a bucket list for Northgate, considering what they want to achieve this year and particularly focused on the IB learner profiles.

A brilliant start to Northgate, well done!
