Celebrating the Life and Achievements of Coco Chanel
This week in Watergate, we have welcomed Mr. Sheean into our class bubble. Mr Sheean is a PGCE student, who will be working alongside the Watergate team in our classroom, to support the children with their learning and development. Mr Sheean enjoys many genres of music, football, literature and reading and has made a superb impression on all of the children so far, this week!
During maths, Watergate furthered their knowledge and understanding of the five times table throughout this week, by working in an abstract way and solving a range of challenging word problems and deeper level learning activities with their peers, to develop their understanding and application of multiplication.
To kick start this term’s topic, ‘Inspirational Figures in History’, Watergate have explored the life of Coco Chanel, by identifying her historic timeline and how she became the inspiring figure she remains today, based on her past experiences.
The children discovered the range of influences, which contributed towards the success of Coco Chanel’s empire at a time when the world was ruled by men, such as the fact she was an orphan at the age of 12, she sang to sailors at the weekend and designed her outfits when performing and took most of her inspiration from the Catholic monastery of Aubazine, where she learned the trade of a seamstress.
In PSHE, Watergate revised their understanding of the importance of Road Safety, in aid of Road Safety week.
During this time, the children developed their knowledge of how to safety cross the road with an adult and discussed their awareness of pedestrians, a zebra crossing, a seatbelt, ‘the green and red man’, helmets, and a lollipop person.
Finally, a big well done to Watergate this week for their wonderful effort displayed in dance with Victoria. The children were extremely pleased to be reunited with Victoria and during dance this week, practiced their….
